Art Nouveau

September 17, 2023 14:00

🥀 Today's focus on this major artistic movement of the late 19th century, which culminated in the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Asymmetry, polychromy, bewitching curves, rich ornamentation and the reign of nature. No doubt: you're looking at noodle-style architecture. This new aesthetic, driven by designers led by William Morris, advocates total art and a return to nature. From floor to ceiling, ceramics to jewelry and furniture, everything was covered, including, of course, tableware. From now on, to be fashionable, bourgeois interiors feature a dining room designed by Hector Guimard. Vases and lighting fixtures by glass wizards Emile Gallé and Antonin Daum. On the table, a fennel-shaped coffee service stands alongside table accessories bearing the imprint of the famous Alfons Mucha. Here are a few addresses to take you back in time to that era: visit the Villa Majorelle in Nancy, and if in Paris, stop off at Maxim's or Bouillon Julien for a gourmet meal ! 😋
