À la reine Elisabeth II

June 05, 2022 14:00

👑 The United Kingdom is currently celebrating the platinum jubilee of Elizabeth II, which marks 70 years of reign of the Queen, who ascended the British throne on February 6, 1952. It is an opportunity to remember her first state visit to France, in April 1957. After a gala dinner given in her honor at the Élysée Palace by President René Coty, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had lunch the next day in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. For this occasion, René Coty ordered to Bernardaud a porcelain service of 4,000 pieces decorated with birds of paradise in gold on a white background. To end the royal couple's (gastronomic) stay in style, head for the Caryatids room at the Louvre. On the menu that day, the "Périgord hedgehog in a nest" worried the sovereign a little: it was in fact a ball of foie gras spiked with truffles and served in a brioche with slivered almonds! 🦔
